Monica 'Mama' Vitello, owner of Vitello's Restaurant, was interviewed extensively during the investigation into the death of Sophia Vance. Although investigators uncovered no evidence suggesting Mama directly participated in Sophia's death, they quickly determined that few individuals possessed greater knowledge of the relationships connecting the principal figures in the case.

A former actress in both Italian and American cinema, Mama retired from the screen years before opening Vitello's with her family. Over time, the restaurant became one of Studio City's best-known gathering places for actors, directors, writers, producers, musicians, journalists, and studio executives. As a result, Mama developed close personal relationships with many of the individuals later connected to the investigation.

Mama maintained a particularly close relationship with Sophia Vance, whom she regarded with genuine affection rather than as a Hollywood celebrity. She also remained deeply protective of her son, Johnny Turner, whose romantic relationship with Sophia placed him under immediate police scrutiny following the fatal crash.

Investigators concluded that Mama frequently served as confidante, advisor, and surrogate family member to many of those involved in the case. Multiple witnesses described her as someone to whom people naturally brought their personal problems, often revealing information they shared with no one else.

Despite her broad knowledge of the people involved, detectives found no indication that Mama knowingly participated in any conspiracy surrounding Sophia Vance's identity or death. Nevertheless, they believed she possessed important insight into the emotional histories connecting the principal individuals and considered her one of the investigation's most valuable witnesses.
